PBAA All-Stars joined by Philippines All-Stars
ALUMNI THAT HAVE PARTICIPATED IN OUR TOURS
SHAH ALAM: Dennis ‘The Worm’ Rodman and company are in town eager to mix it up with Westport’s Malaysia Dragons in a exhibition match at the Malawati Stadium, Shah Alam, tomorrow. The colorful Rodman, who was a member of the legendary Chicago Bulls NBA winning team of the 90’s with Michael Jordan, is part of the Professional Basketball Alumni Association (PBAA) All Star team. With him, are former Bulls team-mate Scottie Pippen, Jason Williams, Mitch Richmond and Horace Grant. Pippen, however, will only arrive from Las Vegas today. “It’s been a really tiring trip because we have been flying for almost two days but we’re really happy to be here,” said Rodman, the bad boy of basketball, who also had a fling in showbiz as an actor. “It’s a great honor to be here and the response is really great. It’s wonderful to know that the NBA is growing at such a rapid pace now compared to a few years ago.” “There may not be any Yao Mings here but there are a lot of guys who love basketball and making this an exciting game. Hopefully, we’ll put on a good show on Monday.” The PBAA All Star team responded well to the challenge that the Dragons would be fielding a much younger team and going for the win. “I know Mitch will be making shots and Dennis will taking three pointers. Horace will do his thing and the Dragons will be in for some serious trouble;” promised Williams. “I’m looking forward to kicking some Dragon butt;” chipped in Grant. The All Star team is coached by Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson, the only player in the NBA to have recorded an average triple double of points, rebounds and assists in a single season. “I’m honored to be a part of this match. I hope there will be a good crowd. This is a great way to develop the game and, hopefully, we’ll see Malaysian basketball in the Olympics one day;” said Robertson. The Dragons will be fielding an All Star lineup of their own; featuring top players from the Asean Basketball League (ABL). Joining the Dragons for the match will be Mario Wuysang of the ABL champion Indonesia Warriors, Desmond Oh (Jobstreet.com. Singapore Slingers), Rob Wainwright (AirAsia Philippines Patriots), Ratdech Kruatiwa (Bangkok Cobras) and Attaporn Lertmalaiporn (Chang Thailand Slammers).
